Literacy Kits a Hit with Ready Set Go…to Kindergarten Providers!

On April 9, 2013 nearly 50 early childhood educators came together as part of the Ready Set Go…to Kindergarten (RSG) initiative to celebrate literacy.  The Elyria City School District hosted the early childhood providers as RSG is the endorsed early learning initiative of the school district.  After eating dinner, professional development surrounding the early literacy skills of picture naming, rhyming and alliteration were led by the Elyria City School District and Michele Henes of the Children’s Learning Center at Lorain County Community College.

Each of the 16 Elyria early childhood education centers who are part of the RSG initiative were provided with a literacy kit valued at over $300 to supplement early literacy education at their site.  Several providers exclaimed their excitement over receiving such high quality items from Scholastic, Inc. and Lakeshore Learning Materials.  The early childhood educators were then able to dig into their kits and brainstorm together ways to use the materials.  Alison McMahon, Director of Neighborhood Alliance’s Child Enrichment Center of Elyria wrote the next morning to say “Machel just finished telling me about last night and showing me the kit we received. Wow! Much more than I expected. What great additions to our preschool room. Just wanted to let you know that we love it”.
